Global Food Security (GFS) is a course which brings to the students a comprehensive overview of critically important issues related to food security, human nutrition, agri-food systems and sustainable production to ensure adequate food resources for the future generations particularly in the countries from Global South. The course is focused mainly on interactions between demographics, sustainable food and agriculture production systems, nutrient resources, changes in diet, technological aspects and innovations in food processing, trade liberalisation and the impact of climate change with emphasis on developing countries and/or tropical regions. At the end of the course the participants will understand and critically assess problems across food systems as well as the global context of food security and nutrition, and identify the main trade-offs between food security, nutrition and agri-food systems. The GFS is designed as an online course with 6 principal online-lectures (modules). Together with the theoretical lectures, practicals (tutorials) are part of GFS as well. The practical part of the course is focused on assignments and online consultations in Food Security Analyses, Baseline Food Security Assessments, Basic Principles of Food Composition Data and Food Component Analysis. Self-study will be supported by the obligatory literature and interactive feedback tools on Moodle.
