The course is focused on providing the students with up-to-date, relevant and useful knowledge on the foundations of agricultural policies with a particular focus on the situation in developing countries. The course provides the knowledge on all links of the policy-making cycle: formulation of policy goals, ex-post evaluation of current policies, establishing of new policy sets, implementation of new policies and monitoring and ex-ante evaluation of new policies. Further, different types of policies used in the developing and developed countries will be introduced. Additionally, the students will discuss actual policy case studies through some selected presentations of the research currently performed in the department and will write a report about selected policies.

Self-study: Students will consult in particular the book by Bavorova at al. provided online. Students will further work on assignments including a report about selected agricultural policies used in a chosen country that will be evaluated.
